As professional boxing returns to Oxford, Jordan Flynn-Dhanjal grabs the spotlight.

For the first time in 60 years, professional boxing is coming to Oxford, and the event is sold out. Local boxers compete in each match at the Kassam Stadium Conference Center, with lightweight Jordan Flynn-Dhanjal serving as the main attraction.

According to Flynn-Dhanjal, the mood “is going to be insane.”

“Fighting at home has always been a dream of mine. Normally, I compete in fights in Essex or London.”

The 26-year-old, who resides in Greater Leys, has won all six of his fights by unanimous decision and one by knockout.

Rustem Fatkhullin, a welterweight who is based in Southampton and was born in Russia, agreed to the fight at the last minute and often competes at a larger weight class.

In 53 fights, the 29-year-old has eight victories, with his most recent triumph occurring in the summer of 2017.

What is the next move for Jordan?

Flynn-Dhanjal continued, “He [Fatkhullin] is going to be difficult and strong, but we have to go in there and get the win.

“At this point in my career, I require quality battles. I don’t need opponents who will simply collapse.”

“The focus right now is on engaging in combat and gaining experience. I want to push for titles early in the following year, advance through the ranks, and promote Oxford as a boxing destination.”

On Saturday, there will be four fights. According to organiser Michael Neilson, other Oxford boxers Tom Brennan, Ciaran Flanagan, and Bradley Townsend will have a fantastic night.

“We were happy to see so much interest, as we had anticipated. In retrospect, we should have acquired a larger arena and scheduled more fights, according to Neilson.

The ability for locals to see the fights is fantastic for the Oxford fighters.

“Jordan and Fatkhullin will engage in a difficult battle. He is coming here to win, so we haven’t just given Jordan some cannon fodder to play with in front of the home crowd.
